The Energy and Bioproducts Research Institute is a partner in the Clean Maritime Research Hub and leads the Clean Maritime Policy Unit. We wish to appoint a researcher to evaluate the sustainability of different low carbon transitions in the maritime sector, including low carbon fuel production, delivery and utilization. If successfully appointed, you will review maritime decarbonization options and evaluate the sustainability impacts of transition scenarios. This will include process modelling, life cycle assessment and techno-economic analysis, with a particular focus on the engineering infrastructure implications of scale up and deployment.
You will work with a team of national researchers to develop transition scenarios for ports and maritime sectors and synthesize models reflecting the impact of appropriate decarbonization scenarios. You will use your engineering experience to evaluate the viability and wider infrastructure requirements related to port and sectoral propositions and synthesize the environmental, economic and social impacts of maritime transitions for a range of academic, industrial, policy and third sector audiences.
You should have an appropriate scientific, engineering or mathematical background, with a PhD (or near to completion) in a relevant topic. You will have strong analytic, modelling and data analysis skills and experience of writing up research outputs. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and strong team work ethos.
