Location:  Aston University Main Campus
Salary:  £32,332 per annum
Grade:  Grade 07
Contract Type:  Fixed Term (22 months)
Basis:  Full Time
Closing Date:  23.59 hours BST on Wednesday 17 July 2024

Release Date:  Friday 28 June 2024

You are invited to apply for a full time Research Assistant position on an exciting new project investigating the Safety, Acceptability, Feasibility and Efficacy of Bed Enclosure Designs in children with intellectual disability (SAFEBED).

The successful applicant will be supervised by Dr Georgie Agar and based at the School of Psychology and Aston Institute for Health and Neurodevelopment, Aston University (Birmingham). This is a fixed term post, supported by funding from the Baily Thomas Charitable Fund.

The aim of the project is to understand whether enclosed bed systems (sometimes known as ‘safety sleepers’ or ‘safe sleeping spaces’) help children aged 3-11 years with intellectual disability and their caregivers to sleep better.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the project, communicating with families and NHS health and social care professionals, administering assessments and writing papers for publication.  Some experience of sleep assessment and focus group methodology is desirable, but full training will be provided.

The post would suit a psychology graduate interested in pursuing clinical or doctoral training, or a post-doctoral researcher with experience of working with children with intellectual disability and their families. In both instances, you would be supported to gain experience relevant to your future career trajectory and would receive training and development opportunities to enhance your likelihood of future success. You will join a growing research team of postdoctoral and doctoral researchers, students and clinical trainees who are passionate about accessible sleep research for individuals with complex needs.

Please visit our website http://www.aston.ac.uk/jobs for the job description and person specification and to apply online. For informal enquiries, please contact Dr Georgie Agar (g.agar@aston.ac.uk).
