Aston Business School is a Triple Accredited University (EQUIS, AACSB and AMBA) and one of the leading Universities in the UK for academic research, excellent teaching (awarded triple Gold rating in the latest TEF) and business engagement.

Aston Business School is conveniently located in Birmingham City Centre, offering excellent transport links, with London just 1.2 hours away by train. It also has a presence in the city of London and through various partnerships, in several places globally.

The Accounting and Finance Department has nearly 50 staff within it specialising in accounting and in finance and closely related subjects.

The finance group manages and delivers a successful and popular undergraduate programme in finance and four, recently redesigned and relaunched, postgraduate programmes as well as supporting a wide range of programmes across the rest of the School.

The core research and scholarly activity areas of focus currently within the finance group are: asset pricing, volatility forecasting, real options, digital finance/fintech, blockchain and cryptocurrency, sustainable finance, financial stability, applied financial econometrics, corporate finance, and corporate governance.

We benefit from extensive connections with professional bodies like the CFA (Chartered Financial Analysis) Institute, CISI (Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment)  and CMT (Chartered Market Technician) Association.

There is a thriving teaching innovation and research culture in the Department, which has a strong reputation for being both rigorous, timely and relevant. We support participation in conferences and actively support business, policy and community engagement activities and executive education opportunities.

We are seeking an inspirational and highly motivated individual(s) to contribute to the delivery of the Department’s teaching for a period of 36 months – ideally commencing 1 September 2026 and ending 31 August 2029.

The successful candidate for this role will provide teaching and related administrative support across a range of modules potentially at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. They will be expected to play a role in the continuous development of our teaching portfolio. They will ideally have some prior experience of teaching finance in a UK higher education setting.

We are looking for candidates who are interested in making original contributions to scholarship in the discipline. This could include publishing the outcomes of their work in professional journals, textbooks and sharing them at professional conferences and seminars etc. to disseminate the findings of pedagogical research to colleagues within the School, the University and wider community to benefit and promote good practice.

You will have a good first degree, perhaps a PhD, and/or relevant professional qualifications (a qualification such a CFA Institute membership will be particular valuable if you have this) and ideally teaching qualifications (at least to Fellow of HEA level or equivalent by experience). It would also be desirable to have industry experience in finance.

A successful appointee will be expected to contribute to, develop and enhance the teaching and scholarship and activities of the School both independently and as part of a team, through professional practice and expertise.  In addition, to develop external links with regional, UK and international bodies such as government agencies, schools, colleges, professional bodies, business and industry as appropriate to the subject discipline and School and/or University strategy.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious, talented, gregarious team-playing individual to take a role in supporting the continued growth of an excellent department.
