Aston Business School is a Triple Accredited University (EQUIS, AACSB and AMBA) and one of the leading Universities in the UK for academic research (in the recent REF we received 100% for Research Impact), excellent teaching (awarded Gold rating in the 2016/17 TEF) and business engagement. We are only one of three UK institutions with the Small Business Charter Gold Award. In 2020 we were the Guardian’s University of the Year and the THE’s Entrepreneurial University of the Year. The University actively supports and finances academic spin-offs.

The Operations and Information Management Department has five subject group areas: Systems Modelling and Simulation, Business Analytics, Operations Management, Global ICT Management and the Advanced Services Group. Most of these Groups have active Research Centres and we are planning to develop more research centres. The OIM Department conducts teaching and engagement activities in various aspects of operations, analytics and IS/ICT. There is a thriving teaching innovation and research culture in the Department, which has a strong reputation for being both rigorous and relevant. We support participation in international conferences and supervision of PhDs via the Dean’s scholarships, and actively support business engagement and Executive Education opportunities.

As part of our growth strategy, we are seeking inspirational and highly motivated individuals to contribute to the development of the Department’s research, teaching, PhD/DBA supervision, and enterprise activities.

We would particularly welcome candidates with knowledge and interest in general operations management topics that include, but are not limited to the following: supply chain management, operations strategy and management, innovation and technology management, quality management and six sigma, lean thinking, inventory management, applications of data analytics and artificial intelligence in operations management, service provision, globalization, manufacturing and production, product/service design, process design, capacity planning, workforce planning, project management and performance management. Candidates should have experience of data management, analysis and interpretation of data, ideally from business and organisational information systems (e.g. social media, ERP systems, database analysis, big data, etc.).

We are keen to discuss new ideas to strengthen our teaching portfolio, research profile and business support provision.

You will have a good first degree, or equivalent, and a PhD in a relevant academic discipline would be desirable. For a Senior Fellow It would also be desirable to be able to demonstrate an emerging teaching related research path having worked in funded projects, through publication of research outputs and creation of research-based impacts in industry and or society. We are especially looking for people with practical skills (e.g. quality improvement, change management, KTP management) and a ‘hands-on and can-do’ attitude.

Posts are appointable at Teaching Fellow or at a Senior Teaching Fellow depending on qualifications, aptitude and experience. Your application must state which you are applying for.

Please Note: Redeployees will be given priority consideration for vacancies
