We are seeking to recruit a high-quality, experienced individual to this strategically important role within the Research and Knowledge Exchange team at Aston University. The University Impact Manager is a strategic leadership role providing specialist advice, guidance and training to University staff on all matters relating to the identification, generation, development and maturation of research impact. 

Working with the Pro-Vice-Chancellor Research, Director of Research Strategy, Funding and Impact, and Director of Knowledge Exchange, the role holder will continue to build on the thriving culture of impactful research across the University’s Colleges, thus ensuring that at Aston, we are maximising the opportunities to translate research to impact for our beneficiaries. 

The role holder will join the team in the Research and Knowledge Exchange (RKE) Department with responsibility for research funding, policy and impact. They will also work closely with other teams in RKE, senior managers in the Colleges, academics and researchers; effective communication with these stakeholders is a key to the success of this role.

The University Impact Manager will ensure that processes and training is in place to support academics and researchers with the objective of translating their research. Working with the Impact Officer and Impact Leads in the Colleges, the role holder will ensure that high quality, timely and pragmatic advice is available to support researchers.

We would like to draw candidates’ attention to the fact that this role has a broad remit and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape this activity over the coming years. The development and tracking of a pipeline of impact activity, that will deliver impact case studies for the next REF is part of this role, but at Aston our impactful activity goes far beyond the REF and is an integral part of how we deliver for our beneficiaries. 

We welcome applications from those who have already had experience leading impact activity at School, Faculty or University level, as well as those who have been part of an impact team at a UK HEI and aspire to take on a leadership role in this area of work. Such candidates will also need to be able to demonstrate their commitment to expanding their knowledge and expertise. The University will invest in relevant training as necessary. 

The role holder will report to Director of Research Strategy, Funding and Impact. 

Interview date: 26 May 2021. Ideally, we will conduct interviews on campus in a COVID-safe environment. If this is not possible, we will interview candidates remotely.
