Applications are invited for a 1 to 1.5 year postdoctoral research position in the project Evolutionary Optimisation of Networks towards Complexity, funded by the prestigious EPSRC New Horizons programme in mathematics and physics. The project aims at implementation, comparison and further development of complexity measures, and the use of evolutionary approaches to optimise networks towards complexity. Application cases include biological and logistic networks, with some flexibility.

The ideal candidate has a solid background (desirable with a PhD in mathematics, theoretical physics, theoretical / systems biology or computer science) and interdisciplinary research skills already evidenced in scientific publications. Fluency in programming (ideally including python or c/c++) is essential. In-depth knowledge of relevant background, especially Network Science, Evolutionary Dynamics, Complexity Science and/or Statistical Physics is desired.

Candidates applying for the full 1.5 year position should be available to start during July 2021, but applicants interested in a 3-6 months research stay may also be considered and are encouraged to get in touch early. For full consideration, applications should be received by 17th of June, but review of applications is continued until the position is filled.

The candidate will join the Department of Mathematics in the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences at Aston University. Aston University is located in the heart of Birmingham City Centre which has very convenient airport and railroad links. London is less than 1.5 hours away by train.
