Aston Business School is a Triple Accredited University (EQUIS, AACSB and AMBA) and one of the leading Universities in the UK for academic research (in the recent REF we received 100% for Research Impact), excellent teaching (awarded Gold rating in the 2016/17 TEF) and business engagement. We are only one of three UK institutions with the Small Business Charter Gold Award. In 2020 we were the Guardian’s University of the Year and the THE’s Entrepreneurial University of the Year. We are again shortlisted for University of the Year in 2021-22.The University actively supports and finances academic and entrepreneurial spin-offs.

The Operations and Information Management (OIM) Department has five subject group areas: Systems Modelling and Simulation, Business Analytics, Operations Management, Global ICT Management and the Advanced Services Group. Most of these Groups have active Research Centres and we are planning more research centres (namely one in Business Analytics).

There is a thriving teaching innovation and research culture in the OIM Department, which has a strong reputation for being both rigorous and relevant. We support participation in international conferences and supervision of PhDs via the Dean’s scholarships, and actively support business, policy and community engagement activities and executive education opportunities.

As part of our growth strategy, we are seeking inspirational and highly motivated individuals to contribute to the development of the Department’s research, teaching, PhD/DBA supervision, and enterprise activities in the area of applied business analytics. We are especially looking for individuals who can establish and develop a centre of excellence in applied business analytics.

We would particularly welcome candidates with knowledge and interest in the following applied research areas: predictive and prescriptive analytics such as big data, data mining and web analytics, social network analysis, optimization and data driven decision-making. Other areas of interest could include productivity and performance measurement, use of statistics and stochastic frontier analysis, process analytics, behavioral analytics and data visualization.

We are also keen to discuss new areas, in addition to the above, to strengthen our research profile, impact generation and business/policy support provision.

Candidates should have hands-on experience of data management, analysis and interpretation of data. Either from business and organisational information systems (e.g. social media, ERP systems, database analysis, big data, etc.) or from policymaking bodies (e.g. government, regulators, etc.).

You will have a good first degree and a PhD, teaching qualifications and experience, or equivalents, in a relevant academic discipline. Further, you will have an exceptional international record of accomplishment at research income generation, research impact creation, and delivering a wide range of research outputs. You should have a strong record of PhD supervision completion, and post-doctoral research mentoring. You will be an expert in a variety of software applications used for business analytics.

It would also be desirable to have senior industry experience of business analytics, consulting at a senior level, acting as a policy advisor to regional, national governments, as well as setting up, and or running start-ups.

We are looking for people with applied research skills and a ‘hands-on’ and ‘can-do’ attitude. We are looking for a leader to play a key role in establishing and developing a centre of research excellence in applied business analytics that will attract industry funding and research council income and create impact from high profile external engagement.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious, talented, gregarious team-playing individual to take a lead role in a centre of excellence for applied business analytics. For the appropriate candidate the Business School may also consider offering positions to other promising colleagues who are working closely with the applicant.
