The College of Engineering and Physical Sciences (EPS) is a hub of teaching and research excellence, engaging in collaborative and impactful research throughout our Institutes and Schools.  We have emerged from Covid with a new energy for impactful research and high quality research-led teaching and we are poised to make significant investments.  The creation of a new role of Deputy Dean (Research) reflects this commitment.

The role reports to the PVC & Executive Dean and carries overall responsibility for the College’s Research Strategy. This includes developing and ensuring we have a thriving research community which produces sustainable research, securing high quality outputs and impactful engagement. 

Candidates must have a thorough knowledge of the external research landscape, a good understanding of research culture in HE and be adept at the formulation and implementation of strategy, structures, and processes.  The successful applicant will have an impressive background in leading successful research teams at a senior level alongside a track record of securing research funding and being published in high-quality, internationally recognized journals.  A PhD in a subject complementary to the College’s current research activity is essential.
