Process development Engineer – KTP Associate

Salary:  £32,000 per annum
Contract Type:  Fixed Term (30 months)
Basis:  Full Time

This role is an exciting opportunity for candidates qualified to M.Sc or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, ideally with industrial experience in a process industry. They will need to be able to demonstrate excellent mechanical engineering skills, with a methodical approach to problem solving and willingness to develop plant-level management and leadership skills.

It is desirable that the candidate should demonstrate experience or capability in:

  • Heat transfer and thermodynamics; 
  • Energy conservation and management and energy efficiency directives and approaches;
  • Numerical / mathematical modelling of systems, particularly in the used of MATLAB and process management related tools.

This KTP project aims to improve competitiveness in a traditional steel forging business by increasing operational efficiency, reducing energy usage, and capturing and re-using waste heat to become part of a sustainable supply chain. This will enable the business to enter new markets in sustainable energy management products.

Candidate Profile: Qualified to a M.Sc / M.Eng in Mechanical Engineering and/or PhD in Mechanical Engineering

Key skills/ experience required include:

  • Knowledge and experience of working in energy efficiency and thermodynamic modelling of the energy systems
  • Good knowledge of the modelling and simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB, EES etc.)
  • Industrial experience in a process industry or closely related industry
  • Excellent mechanical engineering skills, with a methodical approach to problem solving
  • Process management/improvement, green/lean manufacturing, and process control

Personal attributes:

  • Willingness to learn new skills and extend capabilities beyond the technical side of the project. 
  • Collaborative working in a team Project management, including the application of Agile / Scrum techniques
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Proactive attitude to cope with the typical day-to-day challenges encountered in working in a technology-based industry, finding original solutions that will be crucial to deliver the project with the necessary high levels of innovation
  • Work independently on own initiative as and when required.
  • Self-motivated and confident with good persuasion and negotiation skills.  
  • Fit in with the organisational culture and present a positive image of the company to clients.

Location: You will be based predominantly at Brockhouse Group Ltd (BGL) in West Bromwich, but will also have access to facilities at Aston University in central Birmingham. Some travel to key clients may also be required.
