Applications are invited for an academic post in Applied Chemistry within the Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry (CEAC) Group, part of the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.

Successful candidates are expected to be able to contribute to teaching across applied chemistry, including supervision of research projects. However, we are particularly interested in hearing from candidates with expertise and experience in physical chemistry. The successful candidates will also be expected to develop a research portfolio consistent with the school’s strengths in materials or bio-energy/catalysis and so relevant research experience in one of these areas would be desirable. The level of appointment will depend on candidate experience, skills and profile.

CEAC is recognised for its thriving world-class research along with the quality of its graduates and record of graduate employability. The Group emphasises the close relationship between chemical engineering and chemistry in both its teaching and research. Principal research areas are in Catalysis, Bio-energy, Polymers and Advanced Materials.  We have recently had a multi-million investment both in our teaching and research facilities including £18 M in the new European Research Institute in Bio-energy (EBRI), which boasts excellent laboratory facilities for thermochemical, biological and catalysis research.

You must hold a first degree in Chemistry and a PhD in a related field.  You will participate fully in the teaching duties of the Group as well as in its research activity.

You can be in the early stages of your academic career but you must be able to demonstrate aptitude and enthusiasm for teaching. You will also need to show evidence of high quality research in applied chemistry and ambition to strategically develop an internationally recognised research portfolio that will support the school’s research strategy.
