An exciting opportunity has arisen to shape the future for international masters and undergraduate students through the delivery of careers management and employability initiatives across all three colleges: Business and Social Sciences, Engineering and Physical Science and Health and Life Sciences. Aston University are looking to recruit an experienced Careers Consultant who will proactively work with an international student caseload designing and delivering inclusive employability strategies working collaboratively with their central careers colleagues. There will be an expectation that virtual delivery will play a major part both now and continuing once we are past the current pandemic situation. You will have a combined role that encompasses both working on campus and virtually.

We are seeking an experienced HE career, or recruitment professional committed to:

•    deliver guidance to an internationally diverse undergraduate and postgraduate student population

•    innovate to challenge our current practice and maximise impact for our international student cohort

•    learn from sector leading HEI careers work in the UK and globally and apply 'new and different' at Aston

•    building and managing cross-departmental relationships internally and externally.

You will enhance students’ graduate career prospects and the student experience through employability initiatives both embedded in the curriculum and through wider project work, provide CEIAG in 1-2-1 consultations and through group interventions both face to face and virtually for primarily international students.

Aston has a diverse student population and, as such, you will be expected to understand the labour market at a local, national and global level in order to equip students with relevant job hunting expertise. A developed understanding and experience of working with international students is essential. It would also be advantageous if you have had experience working with international employers/organisations.

You will have exceptional verbal and written communication skills, excellent IT skills and the ability to work within a team and on your own initiative. You will be able to prioritise your work, plan in a methodical and organised way, often working to tight deadlines at pace and in line with academic regulations.

Working closely with academic colleagues in the colleges to prepare students to develop professionalism and employability skills to compete as global graduates upon graduation.

The successful candidate will have substantial HE experience or a similar role underpinned by professionalism, student focus and confidence whilst multi-tasking in a busy environment. You will be educated to degree level as a minimum and ideally possess a postgraduate qualification in professional careers guidance or Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching within Higher Education. Ideally, you will have experienced other cultures through living or studying abroad and/or speak a second language.

If you have a passion for a career supporting international students and the drive to succeed in the new blended approach embracing both face to face and virtual delivery, we’d like to hear from you.

Anonymous shortlisting will be carried out for this role as part of Aston University’s commitment to equality and diversity and ensuring a fair and consistent approach to recruitment. Personal details that are included on application forms, including the candidate’s name and address will not be disclosed to the shortlisting panel. We kindly ask that candidates do not send CVs or cover letters as these will not be considered. Please note that the additional information section will not be part of the scoring process, it is your answers that fall within the application questions that are assessed.
