Deputy Director of Marketing

£51,799 - £60,022 per annum (Grade 10)

In this newly created role, we’re seeking a Deputy Director of Marketing to lead a matrix of teams across our Colleges, providing professional marketing services for student recruitment, research and business audiences.  

About Us

Aston University was the Guardian’s University of the Year in 2020, and the Times Higher Education’s Entrepreneurial University of the Year 2021. We offer business, science, health and technology-focused programmes across foundation, undergraduate, postgraduate, professional and degree apprenticeship levels.

The Marketing and Communications team is structured around a hub and spoke model. The hub team controls primary channels (e.g. digital, print, communications), while spoke teams deliver a wide range of marketing services at College and subject levels to drive lead generation and conversion.

Reporting to the Director of Marketing, the Deputy Director of Marketing is a key leadership role responsible for the co-delivery of the University’s annual new income targets of £50m+. The postholder will oversee a team of c.20 marketing professionals with an extensive marketing budget. 

About you

You will have a strong track record in marketing and campaign roles, gained across Higher Education and commercial sectors. You will be skilled at developing integrated campaigns and formulating marketing strategy, as well as being an established team leader, skilled at inspiring and motivating teams to achieve targets and objectives. You should ideally be a graduate in Marketing, Communications, or related subject, with a management qualification, and have direct line management experience in similar marketing roles. 

The postholder will:

  • Develop marketing and brand strategies to support business objectives, aligned to meet income targets.
  • Ensure portfolio-level optimisation of omni-channel performance to drive marketing and recruitment targets.
  • Have an analytical, data-driven approach to marketing planning and targeting audiences.
  • Provide strong leadership, collaborating with colleagues across the hub team, the division, and the University.
  • Ensure marketing and communications activity is consistent with brand to build the reputation and profile of the University.
