The Aston Institute of Photonic Technologies is seeking to appoint a Research Fellow to direct and undertake research on EPSRC project CREATE. The successful applicant will join the optical communication group, and work with Dr Stylianos Sygletos, Prof. Wladek Forysiak and Prof. Andrew Ellis on the area of optical high-capacity transponders. 

Specific research activities will include the theoretical design and numerical system level validation of novel photonic-assisted DAC/ADC schemes that can enable high-capacity transmission/detection of telecommunication signals. 

The Aston Institute of Photonic Technologies is one of the largest photonics research centres in the UK (http://www.aston.ac.uk/eas/research/groups/photonics/), with 90+ staff and current grant portfolio of more than 60 national and international, research and industrial projects with funding amounting to more than £25M. AIPT’s success has been built on the world leading achievements in high-speed optical transmission and processing, nonlinear photonics, fibre grating technology, femtosecond laser material processing techniques, nano-photonics, fibre lasers, bio- and medical photonics, and in various fibre optic sensing applications. AIPT has an impressive portfolio of project funding, industrial and international collaborations, five spin-out companies, highly cited research papers and 60 patents, all demonstrating excellence in the field. AIPT maintains active and fertile collaborations with industrial companies and academic institutions throughout the world.

The successful candidate will have a 1st class or upper second degree in Physics/Applied Physics, Electronic Engineering or equivalent and a PhD in photonics, optical communications or closely related field, or relevant industrial experience.
