Aston Medical School and Aston Pharmacy School (within the School of Life and Health Sciences)

Aston Medical School is focused on promoting social mobility, leadership qualities and international connectivity in medicine and provides highly interactive learning experiences for our students. Our Aston Medical Research Institute (AMRI) established to promote translational medicine and a culture of discovery-based innovative research is transforming lives.

Aston Pharmacy School is part of the School of Life and Health Sciences and has a long-established record of producing high-quality pharmacy graduates, and can trace its roots back to 1847. The Pharmacy School has graduated over 5,000 alumni to practise pharmacy and work in the pharmaceutical industry. It is the only School of Pharmacy to hold a prestigious Regius Chair in Pharmacy. Aston University is one of only few UK universities to have successfully developed a drug of blockbuster status.

To promote closer cooperation between medicine and pharmacy to benefit all our students, we now seek a skilled and scholarly educator to lead the development, management and delivery of an innovative integrated curriculum in Personal Professional Development (PPD) for undergraduate students in the medical school and to lead Inter-professional Education (IPE) across the disciplines of medicine and pharmacy.The post holder will be the Senior Personal Tutor, responsible for the academic, pastoral, professional, and community support for medical students. 

The post will be split 0.6 FTE in the Medical School providing PPD, Student Support and some IPE and 0.4 FTE in the Pharmacy School providing IPE. 

Applicants should have a practical understanding of the modern NHS including its requirements for professional development and inter-professional team-work and an excellent track record in higher education ideally within the fields of medicine, health sciences or biomedicine.  Teaching commitments are likely to include large and small group lecturing and workshops, and online teaching and tutoring. Evidence of scholarly educational development, research and publications would be desirable along with a passion for enabling student learning, and an enthusiasm for cross-discipline working with colleagues across the University and NHS.

The ideal candidate should have a medical degree, pharmacy degree or a good honours degree in a relevant discipline, as well as a doctorate in a relevant discipline.
